We are Prometheans, naked and growing in the fire that we took. It was never ours to take, but it was never theirs to keep. The price we pay for this heroic theft is the world we live in, rising, raging, expanding and intertwining, a world that brings us a storm of terrible promise. We struggle to shake off the vertigo - a Mithraic ritual of triumph over chaos, a victory that lasts only a few moments. But our story need not end in punishment. We open our eyes, and see down to the roots of doomsday anxiety, we see through our attempts to escape the responsibility that the cultivation of this fire brings. And seeing the truth of all this, we will live, not simply exist. Non timetis messor. Do not fear the reaper.
